FREE training for small groups to make it accessible globally – more info about price for larger groups below.
Despite Musk’s takeover, X (Twitter) is still the single most used tool to drive media coverage. It is still the preferred channel for government officials across the world to gain visibility with peers and global institutions. Use of hashtags and Twitter storms enable strangers to quickly learn about a movement or campaign and join it – anonymously if needed. All of this makes it a useful tool for many campaigners.
Activists organizing under repressive regimes are getting the attention of autocrats by using X, threatening how they’re viewed by their enablers across the globe. Even when X or the internet is shut down by a threatened autocrat, activists are able to quickly activate the global diaspora and allies by getting content out to them via other means so they can get it to the media and a broader audience via X.
We will cover:
- How activists, particularly across Africa, Asia, MENA and Europe, are using X strategically to build pressure in campaigns targeting big corporate and government decision-makers and to build visibility in the media
- Developing your X plan based on the needs of your campaign (template provided)
- Building your account quickly and strategically
- Using X lists, spaces and DM groups to build visibility and activate followers
- Orchestrating Twitterstorms including the strategic hijacking of hashtags (Twitterstorm planning template provided); we will practice using a live example
- Toolkit examples to make it easy for allies to participate
- Options for when an authoritarian regime tries to shut you down
- Security and dealing with trolls
Simultaneous interpretation in Arabic, French, and Portuguese can be provided in response to demand, with live captions in 39 languages. Examples and presenters will be drawn from Africa, Asia, Mena, and Europe.
